Florabunda....Playing With Petals

During the Spring and Summer when florals are in abundance at the market I most always have a fresh bouquet or two in my home. Unfortunately living in Miami flowers do not grow well during our hot summer months, so what I have always has to be purchased...
I love displaying them not only when they are fresh, and generally give them a second life by...
drying them for display and crafts. How to dry? I don't hang upside down, rather I plop them in a giant crate with a liner and honestly they look great there as well until ready to craft with or re~display in a vase.

This weekend I had a rare bit of time to relax and do something just for me, so I made a large wreath that I'll be enjoying for display at least until summer's end. It took me about 3 hours of hot gluing petal by petal first to cover the form and then artfully arranging some clusters of dried hydrangeas, stock, larkspur and roses for dimension and flow. Then I lightly sprayed with a sealer for longer life. Well worth it I think, I may add a bit more dimension to it when the pile of dried petals becomes bountiful once again...

Wishing you peace and joy.....

Hi Janet,
I love the dried flowers. The colors are so soft.
Sicily must be like Florida, hot and humid...very difficult to keep a bouquet fresh. Can't wait to go home to Cali, and take a trip to the Farmer's Market for some prettiness. Stay cool! Ciao Rita

This is sooooo very pretty! I try to dry flowers too, I was a Florist working in a high end South Beach store, magazine quality work, but Florida is too humid or something, yet I still try. I live in Pembroke Pines, probably 15 minutes from you! If you have a store I'd love to visit, but it seems you have basically the web site only? So close yet so far LOL...LOVE your blog...so dreamy pretty.

Hi Janet,

First time stopping by:). Your wreath is do pretty as are the glimpses in to this space. I live in the PNW and our growing season is a few months during the spring and summer. During the dark, cold winter months flowers from the market are important to keep my spirits lifted. I afire the antique hydrangea in the fall and dry them for display. Great idea to use the crate!

So, so lovely, Janet! The colors are luscious together. And I adore dried roses. There are usually petals all over the house here in summer. :)

Beautifully soulful Janet,
They remind me of an era time gone in as much as all the pretties that dried flowers would be created in.
Really it's a beautiful wreath of eternity.

Peace and joy you, thank you for taking the time to grace your beauty over at my place leaving a beautiful comment.
