Drying Fruit Without A Dehydrator....Star Fruit For Holiday Decor

My husband recently brought home a huge plastic garbage bag full of star fruir (carambola) from a client's home. I am not wild about the taste of carambola, but I do like the way when it's sliced you have pieces that resemble stars (hence the moniker Star Fruit)...
So I'm thinking holiday decor...
as once again this year I am going minimalist and natural. Thrifty too. I decided to dry the fruit, but one problem....I do not own a dehydrator! So off to the oven it went...

Super simple process and I'm going to experiment with a few different methods since there is still fruit remaining to work with. I set the oven at about 200 degrees and spread the fruit out in an even layer.  After preheating I let them cook for about 2 hours or so and kept checking on them...

They turned deeper in color when the moisture dried out and shriveled, but still look like stars...
I'm planning on stringing some into garlands to hang and will show more as the holiday decorating progresses around here...

So...I found that you don't need a dehydrator to dry fruit. Using the oven is definitely less energy efficient, but I don't need to add another gadget to my kitchen!...
