Vintage Millinery Egg Boxes For Spring... Mini Tutorial

easter egg tutorial with millinery flowers

Today I'm sharing a mini tutorial on how to make these sweet millinery eggs or egg caches that are boxes to hold little treats.

vintage style easter eggs

I've made these in the spring for the shop for a number of years. Not sure that I'll have a chance to do so this year, but if you'd like to try they make for gorgeous gifts for friends.

How to make Easter egg cache boxes

They are easy to make and customize and you can find cardboard egg boxes at most craft stores like Michaels.

I start out by painting them with craft paint and on these I used iridescent pastels mixed with a bit of gesso for better coverage.

On a few I tore up a few pieces of vintage wallpaper and adhered with craft glue. A thin coat of watered down gesso on top will mute the paper. You can also use pastel colored tissue paper for a watercolor effect.

This egg has some antique French millinery ribbon to cover the seam.

Lots of pretty vintage millinery embellishes all of the eggs and makes each one unique. If you don't have any old millinery you can use new from the craft store. Just keep the scale in mind.

Fill with candies or a small gift and if you are like me and love pretty packing...what could be prettier than a home made box.

Janet,
These are gorgeous! I can't wait for Spring to arrive. As much as I love the snow, this year has been a bit much.

I visited before but didnt comment. I love the eggs. I can remember being given a couple as a young girl, such a wonderful, girly present. I think I would rather buy than try to make them.
