Beach Cottage Style In Any Home With Six Easy Pieces

Whenever I have a chance to stay up at our beach home for a few days it's quiet enough to get caught up on work without the usual disturbances of home. Ive infused this quiet decor with some coastal touches that can be easily added in small doses to bring the beach into that decor wherever you call home. Here are six random favorites to look out for when out scouring those flea markets, antique stores or yards sales...

1. Chandelier crystals in blues
I prefer vintage (always) but there are new reproductions to be found or you can paint your own with food coloring. Add them to your favorite chandelier or simply display grouped in a small trinket bowl. You only need a few for big impact...
2. Vintage sea paintings
I found the paintings here over many years of scouring mostly local yards sales for a few dollars each...
3. Concrete garden statuary
Once kitsch and now coveted...this old concrete seahorse trio is the base of what was a birdbath and the top is missing. Look for these in garden centers and give them a coat of paint in your favorite seaside colors...
4. Pottery and planters
Collect by color and group then mass in groups on shelves or scatter throughout the room as accents. Planting optional...
5. Furniture and mirrors
Look for those all important good bones and feminine curvy details in vintage furniture. Add a couple of coats of antique white and touch up the details with aqua antiquing glaze. Pieces found with old chippy white paint? All the better! Mirrors will reflect light and I always add them to every room in a home...
6. Books
Look for books with colored covers and if about the sea even better...

Pieces that work anywhere while setting a course for casual beach cottage style

Love your sea cottage ideas. Oh, I would love to have the luxury of a beach cottage. What tranquility. I love the blue crystals. My favorite painted piece of furniture is the dresser accented with blue. I'm crazy about pottery-especially blue pieces of McCoy! This gives me lots of ideas. Thank you!

I love the beach and beach cottage décor and these pieces really add a nice flair to the theme! We have a large family room in our basement that's our "beach home away from the beach" and has a lot of shells, glass floats, even a lobster cage from Maine! I collect old paintings as well and have one my aunt painted framed and hanging on the wall there. Some day, we hope to take these items to a home that is closer to the beach! xoxo, Leena
