The Beauty Of Beadboard and Old Wood

beadboard diy cabinet

I have a long standing love affair with beadboard. The old shelf above did not start out looking like this, and was transformed in under a half hour by...
adding beadboard to the back this past weekend. The slats are tongue and groove which we cut to the size of the back of the shelf and nailed on the backside all around. I then grabbed a can of Rustoleum Heirloom White spray paint from The Home Depot and gave it a quick spritz in place.

This is the "before"...sorry, no working shots but it was super easy and fast...and the shelf was free from a good friend...

For now it's holding dishes and displaying some essentials in the dining room, where we are short of storage space...

As a bonus it makes the shelves more sturdy and with three dogs running around I'm feeling more confident in using it. Keep your finger's crossed for me!

Another old beadboard cabinet is in the dining area as well, and this one sits on the floor too...holding small dishes and glassware inside...

Beautiful beadboard...timeworn and perfectly aged with patina that goes so well in my Florida home...

A kitchen shelf that you may have seen before in previous posts...made from salvaged wood and beadboard...

And although hard to see...this old piece at the beach house has it's original beadboard backing (and old paint). I guess you could say that I'm mildly obsessed!

Old wood and lots of beadboard at Rachel Ashwell's The Prairie just makes me sigh...

Love beadboard and old plank wood. These are beautiful as well as all of your decor. I just love your style. My daughter is adding large plank beadboard to their bath. I'll do a post when it's done.

The beadboard makes the shelf look much better. Can never have to much beadboard.

My grandparents had a whole bedroom done in robins egg blue beadboard, it was my favorite room.

Our master bath and guest bath are beadboard from floor to 10' ceilings - and I just love it. I love the vintage look it added to your sweet cabinet, Janet. And that blue, chippy one is absolutely adorable.
