Transforming A Guest Bedroom…Classic Beach Style

guest bedroom transformation - a preview of the artwork in our guest bedroom; a pastel blue and pink painting of the seashore line
A guest bedroom shot…
As it turns out there remains a few more details that I plan on putting into this Sanibel Island retreat design, so I will be…

headed back there sometime next week. Once it’s really, truly complete I plan on sharing a lot more with tips and sources on the blog. It’s going to be a rental, so I’ll be taking photos for the realtor…so I should have plenty to share!

guest bedroom transformation - after! Two twin beds with white and light green striped bedding
In this guest bedroom, there needed to be twin beds and previously it was a combination of a broken brass trundle bed, a Lazy Boy recliner, exercise equipment and a lovely antique desk. All of these items and more were donated to the local church charity organization and they were thrilled to have it! Here is a “before” shots via iPhone…
guest bedroom transformation - before - cluttered and dysfunctional furniture we donated
The carpet in the condo was badly stained and needed to be replaced, and due to condo rules requiring carpet we went with a textured carpet from The Home Depot in an Alabaster tone…
guest bedroom transformation before - cluttered and dysfunctional furniture we donated
Another “before” that is a bit blurry, but I wanted to show you one of the first projects that we did in painting two of these bookcases for the guest room. Fortunately we were able to use the carpet as a dropcloth before it was ripped out, and I did the furniture painting while my partner Cindy worked on the cleanout and clean-up…
guest bedroom transformation - after! repainted bookcases painted with light blue paint
I used a latex enamel Valspar paint from Lowes Home Improvement in a pale blue shade. I LOVE Valspar paint and it has a primer built in, so two coats and no sanding took this from dark and drab to beachy! I’ll get the color for you next time I’m out there…
Everything on the shelves was either free or low cost. The trio of vases were found in the trash and taken from brown to white with spray paint. The pelicans were painted as well, frames from HomeGoods contain snippets of vintage wallpaper and the necessary T.V. was in the apartment…
guest bedroom transformation after! Night stand in between two twin beds with a soft light bedside lamp
The headboards were from Target on-line and if you haven’t ever looked at their website you might be surprised at the selection!
Crystal lamp via HomeGoods, pillows reused from the sofa in the living room, all linens from Pottery Barn. I love the faded blue ticking on the duvets…
The painting is by your’s truly and although I am no Picasso I have done a few of these seascapes and this one brings some color and life into this small room. The shared nightstand is a revamped and outdated dark wood media console. Amazing what paint can do!
I’ll be looking for a few more accent pieces in the next few days and may even hit the yard sales this weekend!
Enjoy yours…
xoxo,
