Table Redeux Reveal…A Match Made In Heaven

Mismatch match that I’m really crushing on and can’t wait to see how they look in the small breakfast room at the beach house! I had other plans for the table.

as in “honey, can you add a round rustic top to this?” plans. The table that we previously had at the beach house was round and measured 42″ in diameter and we thought that we could add a top of around that size to this one. We even went to the Home Depot and bought the wood, but it would have had to be about 6 inches larger and we felt that it would overpower that room.
Best laid plans, so plan B was put into play.

The table started out looking like above, photo taken in the garage disaster zone. It was a bridge table from I believe around the 60’s with a leather top. A friend gave it to me recently when we moved my father~in~law to independent living close by, but due to his worsening dementia he had to go into assisted and this was no longer needed there:~(

It came with 3 rather ugly chairs. We don’t know what happened to the 4th chair…and those will be donated. Above is the original finish which looks like that fruitwood of the 60’s to me. Too worn and well….bleck!
Lovely legs and good bones {so to speak:~}
Darby was checking out all of those French style legs too.

I painted the legs first with a coat of primer and then with my go to paint which is Rustoleum in the slightly cream color American Accents in Heirloom White. It’s really affordable because a little goes a long way and it works well without a primer with just a bit of sanding before. I love the sheen and it doesn’t need to be waxed.

I then accented the top leather surround with a French grey paint, distressed with 100 grit sandpaper by hand and applied 2 coats of clear furniture wax from Miss Mustard Seed. The leather really did need sealing because of the crackleture and now I can set my water or coffee on top with no worries of circle rings.

Close up of the lovely design in the leather that I just accented with a small paint brush.

A marriage made in heaven between the caned chairs and the table…don’t you think?

I can’t wait to enjoy my morning coffee at this table when up at the beach house, but I’ll miss having it here for photo shoots at the same time.
