A Christmas Home Photo Shoot…Oak Tree Cottage

christmas gifts shabby chic

Today I’m sharing a shoot that I did last year at Christmas time in the sweet cottage of a friend here in Florida. This cottage is tiny and filled with lots of collectibles lovingly collected over time. It’s the second time.

that I’ve photographed this cottage of my friend Drena Bathemess, with the first time being published internationally. You can read about that shoot HERE and see her little abode in non Christmas mode.

Her cottage built in 1925 is called Oak Tree, and how can you not adore a home with it’s own name and a sign to prove it!.
Drena is a stay at home mom to a much loved young teenage boy, and has a menagerie of animals ranging from dogs to cats to chickens. She has collected and decorated on a budget and attends lots of flea markets and other sales for her decorating wants and needs.
Her living room is full of Christmas finds and I love how she cleverly built a frame around her tv over the mantel.
The warm glow of Christmas lights. I shot the cottage on a dreary, rainy day and admittedly it was quite a challenge with the lack of natural light.

This chair is one of Drena’s favorite pieces.

Pastel ornaments under a cloche are so pretty and sweet.

The living room is the heart of the home where her family gathers to relax around the fireplace on a winter night on the squishy, comfy sofas.

An altered mannequin dressed in angel wings for Christmas.
More pastel ornaments cleverly displayed in a vintage soda crate.

A twinkling barn star behind the bar set up on the buffet.

Pretty touches.

The galley kitchen had been beautifully remodeled by the previous owner. It’s artfully accented for the holidays with white painted nutcrackers, vintage white ceramic trees and fresh white flowers.

A gorgeous shabby chic white tree is tenderly tucked into the corner of the dining room. Who is at the back door? Oh yes…her flock of hungry and very friendly chickens.

The table is set with mismatched flea market china and glassware in true shabby chic style.

A sugared wonderland of vintage pastel ornaments embellish the snowy white tree.
Oak Tree Cottage…a warm and welcoming place designed and styled with so much love!…
