Kitchen and Dining Room Spring Updates…and Organizing Tips

It might be slightly early to be decorating for Spring, but when you think about it…the Vernal Equinox is just a month from tomorrow. It’s cold here though right now, with the temperatures to drop to around 40 tonight…and this is South Florida!

So as you might have noticed if you have been following along, I’ve been organizing and decluttering and it’s such a slowwww process. Painful at times in terms of getting rid of things that I used to be attached to. With that, and everything else going on around here it’s been a busy and productive week. I am FAR from an organizing expert, but here is what I recommend…

…Take it a room at a time, a closet at a time, a cabinet at a time…WHEN you have time. That way it seems less overwhelming of a task and I’m sure that I’m ot the only one that gets easily overwhelmed:~))
For the last couple of days I’ve been working in the kitchen and dining area. The cabinet that holds some of the dishes and glassware (wine glasses:~) that we use often has been cleaned and rearranged…
The cabinets beneath have drawer pull outs, and we use them as a handy pantry for things like popcorn, chips, and cereals. We had tiled the backsplash when we did updates to the kitchen about 15 years ago, and using pale green glass tiles (seaglass color) I think that they will never go out of style…
As for green…for Spring I pulled this old chippy beadboard cabinet out of my storage where it lives for the winter, and put it to use in the dining area. The vintage picnic baskets are painted a pale French grey and I use them to keep cloth napkins and placemats. There just is never enough storage in this house it seems!

A few more views…

When we were house hunting years back the thing that first attracted us to this home was the view from the front door that you see above. The pool is just beyond. Doing my best to keep it clean and clutter free…

Yes, there is a small flat screen in the kitchen and the only time that I really watch TV is when I’m in this spot working on something. My next organizing job will be to tackle the cabinets in here and get rid of the seemingly 4,362 Tupperware containers that have lost their lids…

Simple Spring touches…and some of the vintage French yogurt bottles that we carry in the SHOP

I LOVE these bottles…so many uses and they are such a pretty shade of aqua…

I whipped up a pillow out of indoor/outdoor ticking stripe fabric and created a ruffle edge. Ticking can be used in just about any decor and in every season…
Playing around with an early birthday present from my sweet husband…another lens for my shooting collection…
Have a great weekend everyone!
