How Clutter Can Inspire Your Serenity

simple French country living room styled for winter

A corner of the living room on this first really cold winter day in Miami. It deserves a sheepskin throw and just a a few bare...
elements on the mantel to give light and reflect a winter feel in the mirror.

french living room styled with grey accents for winter

Not really 50 shades of grey, just a few and A LOT of texture. For those who have asked the wall paint is Benjamin Moore White Dove. It is one of their whites that all depending on the light and time of day will show the slight tint of grey. It's my favorite wall paint color and we have used it in every room of our home...

I'm really trying hard to simplify my looks and just have a few favorite pieces out a time. Clutter drives me insane and I inspired to make this house a place of serenity!
This past weekend I spent some time cleaning out my studio as I get ready to make some changes. My plan is it into more of a home office and less of a craft room. I'll be showing you befores and afters soon...

antique mannequin, lanterns, french chair and Moroccan screens

As for the living room, I don't often share every single corner because truth be told it's used for storage at times...

As in...most of the time, like above...

Warming up a living room with a sheepskin throw for winter

This room isn't used as much as others in our home, but it is the first room that you see when you enter. I'm really trying to seriously work on having less stuff, as our storage space in this house is very limited...

So for winter...grey pieces are out of hiding...the French gates, a couple of pillows and throws, and some sparkle with vintage lighting and old French beaded light fixtures used as architectural elements...

In going through my studio I'm doing some major cleaning and will be posting about my upcoming office reno DIYs soon!

Have a great week ahead!

What is it about those fur throws that add so much to a room, anyway? lol I bought a couple at Target earlier this winter and luuuuv them! One is mink colored and is thrown over my living room chaise...which of course, Maizie loves to snuggle into. The other has longer fur on it and I threw it over the overstuffed chair in my bedroom. Anyway, your living room always looks amazing, Janet. So elegant, yet comfy and welcoming. :) Hope you had a great time with Courtney, too!! :)

I couldn't agree more Janet! Did you read the bestseller "The Magic Art of Tidying Up"? It has literally changed my outlook on keeping all that I do. My house is pretty neat, but my garage has been a dumping ground for everything that I don't use/want/decorate with anymore for years and it's started to really pile up. I realized after reading that book that there is such a thing as "visual clutter" and that it actually adds stress without you even realizing it. So... I'm on a binge of donating, selling, and cleaning out and am determined to have the garage done this year! For a life long collector, it's a tall order, but hopefully I will do it. (Especially since like you, I don't have a ton of storage space other than that garage!)
