6 Ways To Use Wallpaper Besides Walls
I love an accent wall that has a beautifully patterned wall as much as the next guy (girl) and used some in our first home. When we purchased this home there was some horrendous 60’s wallpaper on some of the walls and I can’t even begin to tell you what a bear it was to remove it!! I swore to myself that I’d never wallpaper a wall again, but I love papers of all kinds as a crafter and today I’m sharing 6 ways to use wallpaper besides glued up on the walls in your home…
In our family room {I don’t share the room very often on the blog, it needs work:~}} we have a large wall of built-ins. They provide a lot of storage and house the big screen tv and some of my collections like the vintage clocks. Probably about 10 years ago I wallpapered the back of the built-ins to bring in some texture to the room.
I used paintable anaglypta paper that is textured and resembles punched tin ceilings with a damask pattern. I used milk paint in a slate blue wash and it makes the whites of the clocks and my ironstone pottery collection really pop…
If you have open shelving in a kitchen and are a fan of wallpaper this might be something to try, or in a china cabinet to show off your stuff…
Speaking of wallpaper on walls, I love how some of the old homes that you see on HGTV have hidden walls that have either old wallpaper layers behind new treatments or shiplap. I enjoy using snippets of wallpaper on projects just to bring in some old fashioned pattern play and I used some on this ladder…
My husband found this wood ladder on a job site somewhere and it likely belonged to a painter with drips and drops of color. I gave it a wash of aqua paint thinned out and glued some torn pieces of wallpaper on here and there. Use either regular craft glue or something like Mod Podge to adhere.
Once dry, it was coated with a sealer. I sold this one awhile back in the shop and they are great for display…
Wallpaper can be used like most other types of paper to cover every day objects like books, and in this case jars in my studio. I store glass glitter in these jars and the apothecary jars are tightly sealed so that air doesn’t get inside and discolor my glitter.
I measured around each jar with a soft tape measure (you could also use string) and then cut out my pieces to size. Once again I glued them into place and sealed when dry. They look so pretty lined up on my studio shelves that are now housed in a closet…
A long time favorite project are these magnetic boards that are covered in vintage wallpaper. They are made from the backs of photo frames that you can find inexpensively. Take the frame and the glass off and save for another project, then glue this piece of magnetic paper over it and cover with wallpaper.
You should be able to get small magnets to stick to it (sorry that I had none to show here) or if you use a piece of cork board instead of magnetic paper you can use push pins for your notes.

I’ve glued a ribbon on the top and I actually have this one hanging in my home office most of the time…
