My Summer Kitchen Home Tour

white kitchen with mason jar chandelier
Did I ever tell you that I love green? I’ve been adding more blue to our home but since my signature color palette is more on the cooler than warmer of the wheel I do add in some seafoam, aqua turquoise and yes…a plant or two here and there.
Today I was cleaning up the kitchen and also had the appliance repair guy here to fix our gas cooktop and shot a few photos to share. I wish that I had the insight way back when we remodeled this kitchen about 15 years ago to take some before photos, but that was before digital and before blogging so I’ll tell you what we did here. You can also read more in THIS older post about our budget.

This is a view from one side of the island looking into the dining area. We don’t have a formal dining room and I’m good with that because we aren’t very formal around here! Out the double French doors is the patio and pool and the large garden that is all tropical and lush. Miami living…and weather permitting we entertain and live outside.

white kitchen remodeling budget
We built the island in our first remodel and actually moved it when we enlarged the kitchen in another remodel. The top used to be black granite but upon enlarging we needed a larger piece.
The cabinets around the sink area are original to our house (built in 1962) and are heavy solid wood. When we bought the house they had hideous mica doors and counters, but our young couple budget was tight so we got a carpenter friend to reface with new doors. Yes…that is a tv in the corner and I sometimes watch it when I’m cooking or prepping. Do you do that?

Looking into the kitchen from the family room is a bar with two chairs. We often just eat at the raised bar when the kiddos aren’t around. The LOUIS BARSTOOLS coordinate with the LOUIS CHAIRS in the dining room and I’m sourcing with some affiliate links for your convenience.

A little hard to tell, but the backsplash tiles are a pale seafoam aqua glass and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them! We put the granite and the backsplash in around 10 years ago and I do believe that everything in this room is timeless.

I keep debating about changing out the Mason jar chandelier (candelier actually) but I love the color and am not sure if I want to give up that little pop of turquoise.

Since I have no flowers for the weekend I added color with the greens and put some oranges in a vintage aqua bowl on a favorite old wooden stool.

The family room behind was formerly the garage and we added an entire new wing on that side of the house years back and opened things up. I like to think that my husband and I were ahead of the curve with open concept! Sort of like a former version of Chip and Joanna Gaines :-}}

Our kitchen and dining area are a touch of coastal, a dab of rustic, a skosh of elegant and a whole lot of practical. Maybe just a smidge of cottage style as well in this look.

The floors are a porcelain ceramic tile and they resemble stone. The color is very forgiving with all that goes on in this house via family, friends and dogs.

I hope that you enjoyed my summer kitchen home tour and if you have any questions just leave them in the comments for me. Happy weekend friends!
