Budget Christmas Decorating With An Elegant Look

It’s the Saturday before Christmas and there is so much excitement in the air! Do you feel it like I do? I can’t wait to get together with family and friends and do some entertaining…especially because we didn’t do much for Thanksgiving and then with the passing of my father-in-law we have been quiet over here.

Keep reading because I have some tips for the budget decorator today, which my dear readers have requested…
I feel like a real slacker, because our master bedroom has looked like this for a couple of months now and this is the first time that I’ve had a chance to shoot it! The flowers are fresh, but the rest…well, not so much.

My curious pups wanted in on the action this afternoon and this is Darby just floating around seeing what I’m up to. I have kept the bedroom simple this holiday season and other than the flowers I didn’t purchase a thing. The wood under the non working mantel is just some firewood stacked up and a few pinecones sitting on top. I’d love some birch logs one day, but birch trees don’t grow here in the deep south…so these are logs with bark. Free.

Totally unplanned and he wasn’t the subject of my focus, but hello Bartley who is the most curious of our 3 dogs and intently studies whatever I do. The Merry Christmas garland is from Target and I purchased it last year, so I’m not sure if they still carry it. I love the silver glitter to add some of that metallic sparkle that looks great during the holidays!

peonies and candles

The evergreens I purchased about a month ago at the grocery and they really last well if the ends are kept in water. Today I found some pink peonies and the prettiest stock at Fresh Market and they are the pop of pastel that the room needs.

This white tree…it’s still here if you’ve been following me for any length of time. I talked about it in THIS POST and THIS ONE on BUDGET DECORATING with a high end look and how I treated the tree to revive it. I didn’t use any ornaments on it for the season…but if I decided to that would be an easy change up. For the skirt I tossed a couple of faux fur throws around it and layered them to look lush (see top photo).

The brass candlesticks I sourced at a yard sale and they are perfectly full of patina and tarnish…naturally. You just can’t get that in new, it doesn’t look the same! I’m all about mixing new with old and that’s how the higher end look is achieved for me that does work with a tight budget for decorating and elegant tastes.

Romantic flowers make the room pop…and some beautiful light helps too.

And look who ended up on the bed…all freshly groomed and ready for the holidays!
