How To Create A Table That Will Make You Love Fall Entertaining

Do you love to entertain but hate to set a table? Well I love both aspects of entertaining and have many, many reasons to LOVE FALL! From the slightly cooler nights (just SLIGHTLY here in FL) to the tastes of crisp fresh apples in the market to the various gourds and pumpkins for display. It won’t truly be fall here for another month at the earliest, but that gives me time to play with vignettes before the madness of the holiday season kicks butt. So on this home tour that I’ve been invited to join by my talented and gracious friend Sheila of Maison de Cinq, I won’t be doing a full tour (thanks to Hurricane Irma) but invite you to a table discussion. Let’s get started!

How To Create A Table That Will Make You Love Fall Entertaining

This look may look complicated but it’s so simple! I don’t know about you, but these days I don’t have the time to stress out when entertaining and/or designing a table setting. Simple = less stress and that’s becoming my mantra in all of life’s aspects these last few years. Easy and rustic, elegant and natural with just a few things on the table that make it special.

I’m gravitating to that rustic look of wood more and more and THIS SHELF that I recently added to our beach home sings that same song. Not wanting to cover up this table (DIY TUTORIAL) I ran a French grainsack runner down the center and called it a day. No ironing…it has some wrinkles, but I’m perfectly fine with that.

This is my take on tablescaping and it always works for me…always. I start with the flowers and whatever is available at the market or my local florist. Seasonal is a must this way, but recently I’ve come across some AMAZING faux florals and I can’t wait to share them with you soon! For this table my florist had some of the prettiest PEACH toned David Austin Roses called Juliet. I mixed them in with some of last week’s grocery store pink mini roses, along with eucalyptus and other greenery. Nothing contrived…we are going SIMPLE here and I literally plopping them into this pitcher.

For more on FLOWER ARRANGING, I have a couple of informative posts….HERE and HERE. I just like to arrange flowers naturally, as if they came from the garden.

After the runner and the pitcher with the flowers is set I added the pumpkins. It is AUTUMN after all, and I shot this at our beach home where I have a stash of VELVET PUMPKINS in beachy colors like Aqua and Teal. Not a lot of thought went into this, just a scattering and smattering of a few of the pumpkins and VELVET ACORNS.

Next I grabbed some GOLD CHARGERS that I found at a local beach thrift shop. Large chargers are an inexpensive touch and a nice pop of color to any entertaining table setting.

Once you have your chargers set in place, decide what plates you’ll be using and place a cloth napkin inbetween the two. Just a basic touch that will help in effortless entertaining and paper napkins be banished forever! Goblets for drinking and in this case they are aqua toned once again. I generally serve buffet style at the kitchen island and stock more glassware, ice and all drinks for guests.

Want to try something fun? Instead of placing PRETTY FLATWARE at each setting pile them into a vase or pitcher and pop that on your table as I have done. Guests can pass it around and grab what they need and every. single. time. that I have done this it elicits a smile!

Add a few candles and you are basically done.

  1. I absolutely loved this link to find my favorite items ever! Pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins! Teal, turquoise, white! So excited to see what else in decorating for the fall & winter. Being in Florida kind of takes the excitement of looking for that perfect pumpkin but I can now see other options I can use and be just as pretty! Look forward to every post! Thank you!
