How To Create Elegant Table Settings With Layering And Texture

I seem to be on a neutral roll lately in our home, and as I continue to dig through my stash of dinnerware I’m using my French ironstone dishes often. To create a stylized mood for dining is one of my favorite things to do when entertaining and with neutrals it’s all about mixing up with…

…textures and tones. For this autumn setting I started with a French GRAIN SACK table runner. Fall is such a great time for the texture of rustic wood, so I brought out a large dough bowl to fill up with pumpkins. Of the faux kind, since there are no real ones yet available in my neck of the woods.

I’m not convinced that I’m going to pile on the real pumpkins this fall and am embracing the faux! The white pumpkins were in a bag that I purchased last year on sale and painted white with chalk style paint. The velvet pumpkins are from several places and let me tell you that I’m seeing them everywhere this year in non-traditional colors!

There are no wrong and no rights in setting a table in my book of creating looks that I love. Just lots of texture and subtle tones, and of course LAYERING. My own items are vintage pieces, but I’ve shopped to find some similar ones if you love the look below.

Does it have to be matchy-mathcy? I break rules if there indeed are any by just using what is pleasing to the eye (my eyes) and keep it toned down with tone on tone layering.

Last year I talked about HOW TO STYLE A DOUGH BOWL and they are definitely a must have for anyone who loves to entertain. Don’t forget the candles as well, especially as the weather turns cooler and you want to bring in a warm glow.
